FAQ’S ABOUT HIRING ME

WHAT KIND OF WORK DO YOU DO?

I design and develop WordPress CMS websites and blogs (exclusively.) I also create press-ready print ads, web banner ads, Mailchimp.com (the best!) email templates, social website branding (custom Facebook landing pages, Twitter and YouTube Channel backgrounds), restaurant menus, brochures, direct mail pieces, graphics for web and print, logotypes and artwork for all the collateral pieces your might use them on (letterhead, envelopes, business cards, banners, etc.)

WHAT DO YOU CHARGE?

Web, graphic, and e-marketing design efforts can be all-out campaigns or bits and pieces created with shoestring budgets. No two marketing solutions will be the same; varying goals, desired results, project management and budgets all play a part in assessing your needs. Web packages can be just a 1 or two page web presence or an large project involving dozens or hundreds of pages and include a family of online marketing tools such as email marketing, web banners ads for other sites, social media arms like Facebook and Twitter, and maintenance of your brand everywhere it appears online. To assess how far you’d like to see your business grow online, let’s have that discussion about how big, how small, how far-reaching, and your budget. In case you’re wondering, I do not build websites for $500.

WE ARE A NON-PROFIT. DO YOU WORK PRO BONO?

I have a number of long-time clients that are in the non-profit sector and allow 10% of my time to devote to pro bono projects.

CAN YOU START ON MY PROJECT RIGHT AWAY?

Possibly. I keep a pretty tight schedule and give priority to my existing obligations. Depending on the scope of your needs, I may be able to place you at the front of the line, but may also require a rush fee.

HOW IMPORTANT IS OUR SCHEDULE?

Staying on schedule is extremely important. Like you, I have many obligations at any given time. Creating and staying on a schedule is crucial to my finishing your project as well as not drowning in work when too many projects overlap. That’s when important things fall through the cracks. Pardon my nagging, but I will do everything in my power to stay on schedule. Won’t you?

WE’VE DECIDED TO POSTPONE OUR LAUNCH. CAN WE POSTPONE THE “BALANCE DUE UPON SCHEDULED LAUNCH DATE?”

Probably not. Rescheduling a launch (or press delivery) date throws the rest of my work flow out of whack. Also, I’ve already budgeted for your project for that period of time and will likely require the financial end of it to remain on par. This helps to ensure your project will eventually be completed as we originally planned.

WHAT’S INVOLVED IN THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS?

  1. Step One: We meet in person, on Skype, or on the phone and define the parameters of the project, specifically, what you’re trying to accomplish and how you want to do it. We’ll discuss project requirements, time frame, budget, and other pertinent details.
  2. Step Two: I’ll send a (very brief!) proposal outlining our discussion, your needs, budget, and schedule based on the scope of the project (website, social media, brochure). Generally several options are given.
  3. Step Three: If you accept the proposal and return the contract with an initial retainer fee, we’ll begin work. At this time, I’ll need the content (text, graphics, photos, etc.) that you’d like to use on your website or print project. This part of the process ensures we understand each other. It sets expectations.
  4. Step Four: At a predetermined date, I present several concepts to you. I’m a creative person, and I always try to approach your project from different angles. I’ll show you these ideas and get your feedback.
  5. Step Five: Based on concept approval, I’ll begin the development (if a web site) process on my server. All site elements must be delivered to me to begin this process. Based on your direction, I’ll refine the work until we’re both satisfied that it meets your objectives and keep a strict schedule so the project launches or goes to press on time. After final approval and the remaining balance for the project is received by me, we’ll go to press, launch, or send out that email blast. Launch upon or delivery to your server will not happen until I have received the final balance.

WILL I BE ABLE TO PREVIEW MY WORDPRESS WEBSITE WHILE IN DEVELOPMENT?

Yes, all websites are developed on my own server or a white-label server. Once we are approved for launch, the site will be transferred to your own server.

HOW DO WE COMMUNICATE?

I can be reached in a variety of ways other than email. Once you’re a client, you get my cell phone number and Skype username. I’m available between 9am and 5pm EST, Monday to Friday. I always let clients know when I will be off the radar a few weeks ahead of time.

HOW DO YOU ACCEPT PAYMENT?

Unless other arrangements have been agreed upon, I require a 50% deposit prior to scheduling the work with the remaining 50% payable upon completion of the project, scheduled launch date, or prior to launch of the site on your web server. Unless you live in Vermont and/or we can exchange in person, I accept payment exclusively via Freshbooks. A 5% discount is available for upfront payments.

WILL YOU FEATURE MY PROJECT IN YOUR PORTFOLIO?

I might! I like to promote my clients when the projects we create are unique or exceptional. I don’t feature all projects in my online portfolio as that would take a while to sift though. I’ll always ask for your permission prior to including your project.
