How to Adopt

While our adoption center remains closed to public access, we are able to do adoptions by appointment following strict guidelines.

NCAL is committed to the health and well-being of our community and staff. To help protect one another, we are requiring all staff and adopters at NCAL to wear face coverings at all times. If you are feeling ill and have any symptoms of COVID-19, we ask that you please stay home. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

STEP ONE

Search

Search adoption listings on NCAL’s website for dogs or cats currently available for adoption. Review their profiles carefully to make sure that you can accommodate their specific needs, if any.

STEP TWO

Apply

If you see an animal you wish to adopt, complete and submit an adoption application (dog or cat) form. If you are unsure of a specific animal but would like to meet available animals, please make note of that on the application or give us a call and let us know. Preference will be given to adopters that are interested in a specific animal.

STEP THREE

Wait

Once your application has been submitted, wait for a confirmation phone call. NCAL adoption staff will review adoption applications on a first-come-first-serve-basis and will call you to confirm we received your application, the status of your application, and the next steps in the process.

STEP FOUR

Confirm

If you are first in line for an animal our Customer Service Representative will confirm that you would like to move forward with the adoption and your application will begin to be processed. The time frame typically takes about 1-2 days to process completely.

STEP FIVE

Meet & Greet

Once the application is approved, you will receive a call to confirm a day and time to meet with the animal. The meet and greet is expected to happen within 1-2 days from when the application was confirmed for processing. If you have other dogs in the home, they will need to come to the appointment to meet with the NCAL animal. Due to the high demand of our animals, if you are not able to meet with the animal in the allotted time frame, we will have to move onto the next applicant. Call the front desk when you are in the parking lot. Remember to wear a mask to your appointment and complete our COVID Screening Survey before interacting with NCAL staff.

STEP SIX

Decide

After your adoption meet and greet you will decide to adopt the animal that day, place them on a 24 hour hold, or decide to not go forward with the adoption. NCAL prefers to do same day adoptions to limit the amount of exposure.
