Junior Volunteers

NCAL’s Junior Volunteers are just as important to us as any adult!

  • Children and youth must volunteer with a parent, guardian or an authorized adult who will be their adult volunteer partner.
  • This is a drop-in position available Tuesday through Saturday, between 1:00-5:00pm.

  • Junior Volunteers must arrive with their adult partner volunteers before 4:00pm at the latest for their shift.

Junior Volunteer Requirements

Junior Volunteers Must:

  • Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination

  • Be between 6-15 years of age

  • Be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian/authorized adult who will work with the child/youth as a partner volunteer

  • Be a Junior Volunteer’s parent, guardian, family member or an authorized adult over the age of 21 in order to be a partner volunteer

  • Have an email address (parent/guardian email will do)

  • Fill out an application

  • Complete orientation and applicable training

The skills you will need:

  • Ability to follow directions
  • Ability to adhere to NCAL’s rules, regulation, procedures and protocols
  • Must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian/authorized adult
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Friendly and warm personality

Junior Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Housekeeping chores including (but not limited to) laundry, mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning windows, etc.
  • Packing food for the NCAL Meals Program
  • Reading to animals to help them get socialized
  • Assisting shelter staff as needed
