Our Impact

Our aim is to help communities strengthen local food systems, encourage sustainable farming practices, diversify income, adapt to climate change, and cultivate local leadership.

We believe coffee farming families should be able to:

  • Provide nutritious meals for their families every day of the year.
  • Advocate for themselves to achieve food sovereignty.
  • Deploy the knowledge and skills necessary to support a sustainable livelihood.

We help farmers grow food organically, educate families and students about food security and nutrition, and provide business planning to build their capacity to support local food systems and economic growth. Our agroecological approach bolsters farm agrobiodiversity to improve the health of people, pollinators, and the planet.

At the beginning of each partnership, we lay the groundwork for monitoring the impact of our programs. Our initial baseline diagnostic allows us to measure change over time and identify where improvements can be made.

Sharing our Impact

Each year, we share impact highlights in our Annual Report, as well as the challenges that we faced in realizing our goals. This is summarized in the below infographic. See our latest annual reports and financial information.

40% of Food Security Gap Filled in Nicaragua
30% Reduction in Food Scarcity
41% Increase in Income among beekeepers in Mexico

Where we can improve

Each of our programs are tailored to a specific organization or community. As a result, we often lack common indicators across all programs that would help us effectively measure the cumulative impact of our interventions. Developing appropriate indicators for measuring our cumulative impact remains an organizational priority.

In the meantime, we measure and report on various indicators to identify areas for improvement in each project, statistics such as:

  • Reduction in months of food insecurity,
  • Increase in income due to interventions,
  • Percentage of food security gap filled
  • Increase in production of honey (or other products)
