Making Whiteness Visible

Making Whiteness Visible

April 7, 2013

Peace & Justice Center’s racial justice coalition put together two “Making Whiteness Visible” workshops in early April (2013) led by Sha’an Mouliert. This coalition is working with Conversations on Race Now (CORN), Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) and individuals who have been working for racial justice in the area for many years. One of the workshops was open to the public and the other was by invitation only for law enforcement officers and allies held at the Burlington Police Station. The public workshop had over 50 people in attendance and several people also stood as peacemakers outside to ensure the event was safe. The private workshop had over 20 people in attendance including representatives from seven police departments. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported these events!

For those of you who missed this event you can watch it online below. This video doesn’t have the film in it so we recommend that you get together with a group of friends to watch Sha’an’s introduction to film and agreements for the discussion that follows (the link for this is below) then watch the film “Mirrors of Privilege: Making Whiteness Visible” (you can watch it in parts on YouTube) and then go back to the video of our event and answer Sha’an’s discussion questions with your group and see what others in your community had to say. Thank you to CCTV for filming this and to everyone who shared in the discussion portion. Good luck to all who host a screening and discussion group around this event!
