A Handful of Very Cool Tourism-related Twitter Backgrounds

ArizonaTourismThis effort began as a Top Ten of Tourism Twitter Sites, but after spending virtually HOURS to locate ten truly remarkable destination Twitter pages, I settled on handful plus a few mentions. There just doesn’t seem to be a good selection with ROCK STAR status…yet. If you think I missed a few, please direct me to them.

Using the most obvious keywords: tourism, visit, and traveI, I used the following criteria for selecting:

  • Branding
  • Use of Space
  • Similarity to website in Bio
  • Messaging
  • # and quality of updates

ArizonaTourism‘s Twitter page is a nice use of space and looks even better than their website (which looks a little wonky on Safari.) Lots of updates, tons of followers, good readable messaging on the left, and the logo-as-avatar works well. twitter.com/ArizonaTourism

NorthDakotaTour is an attractive companion to their website. Nice muted colors, prominent logo, hints of attractions and an old west/prairie feel. Not a lot of updates but they JUST started Twittering at this writing. Beautiful! twitter.com/NorthDakotaTour

PositivelyCleve is a fun Twitter companion to their website. Nice placement of logo.twitter.com/PositivelyCleve

knoxville1EnjoyKnoxville is very blue, but uses a nice juicy iconic image. Its like an unrefined little brother to their nicely arranged website. The “logo” intro, at least at my window size, reads “Helping you Twitter”. Lots of updates and follows/followers. EnjoyKnoxville

TourFrederickMDTourFrederickMD looks like it started out with a bang, but with only a couple of updates from 3 months ago, I wonder what happened. IS there really nothing going on in Frederick? Their Twitter page reflects their brand perfectly alongside their website, only other oddity is the avatar. TourFrederickMD

KentuckyTourismKentuckyTourism‘s Twitter presence is simple, but to the point. I’m not a fan of the easy gigantic photo, but in this case, the horses frame the feed nicely. And really – as a visitor, what else defines Kentucky other than Bourbon? KentuckyTourism

**Update** Dang, the horse race image has been replaced by another gigantic photo of kayaking. Mixing it up seasonally? Hmmmmm, I’m confused…

VisitPalmDesertVisitPalmDesert has a very colorful, image-heavy Twitter page that somewhat reflects their website. The images are the stock sort with a thick white border that reminds one of snapshots. Good eye candy, although the logo is teeny tiny. Needs more post, but its a good start. VisitPalmDesert

VisitMusicCityNashville‘s Twitter page is quite minimal – maybe even too white – but has an interesting graphic that precisely mirrors their very cool website. Loads of really useful tweets and gobs of followers. VisitMusicCity

VisitSanAntonioVisitSanAntonio on Twitter page is a nice compliment to their website, in fact I like the rich western-ness of the background even better than the website’s. website. VisitMusicCity
