Ad campaign inspired by a Tweet

Heck Yeah I'm ready for some awesome!
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME AWESOME?
A slew of print ads is about to hit the Seattle area, in a variety of visitor guides and hotel area to-do magazines. Through a mutual acquaintance, the über unique Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum & Hall of Fame was referred to me for some ideas on an upcoming tourist-related print campaign.

I have followed @empsfm on Twitter for a while. They always offered entertaining tweets about music and other rawking’ happenings in my former hometown.

In fact, during the creative comping process (you know – a pencil, sketchpad, brainstorming wacky ideas as well as conservative ones) I came across one of their tweets that inspired the last ad comp – and the one they chose to run with:
@empsfm Tweet

The first thing that came to mind upon reading this tweet was, “Heck yeah, I’m ready for some awesome!” I mean, who isn’t? The tweet was immediately followed up by breaking news of something rawking’ on the calendar, with a link of course. I don’t remember what it was, but I was inspired by the teaser nonetheless.

PRINT ADS FOR TOURISM
Print ads geared for tourists are a tricky lot. They need to be informative enough to give some basic info and a way to find out more (website!) as well as eye-catching enough to grab a last-minute itinerary planner flipping through a visitor guide at check-in or while disembarking at the cruise ship terminal for a day of fun on land. The markets range from families, foreigners, and day-trippers, to travel writers, business travelers and convention attendees.

THE PROMISE OF AWESOME
After much tweaking to find the perfect images in their collection to best highlight both museums – and convey some AWESOME, the final ads were selected for placement in the Seattle’s Official Visitor Guide, Where Magazine and the Where Quick Guide, all available throughout the area for at least the next 6 months.
