From Doodles to Launch
There’s a cool little company hailing from Burlington, VT called inlu. inlu.com bills itself as an eco-friendly online gift tool for collecting funds for social events, celebrations, wish-lists, in honor of and group gifting efforts. Get it? In Lieu Of (buying stuff, give instead)…inlu.
I recently was on board to create a microsite for inlu’s Sex and the City 2 Movie Party campaign. Sarah Jessica Parker herself gave it her blessing, so inlu was off to the races to promote movie-going and charitable giving in tandem in the few weeks prior to the movie’s opening weekend.
While sitting down with the inlu team, I sketched out the desired layout and graphic elements that would accompany the campaign web page. Here I’ll show you how an hour’s worth of doodles and jotted thoughts ended up online and ready for FABULOUS.
From Note Taking to a Blog
Occasionally someone will ask to see what’s inside my Moleskine notebook, and I’m happy to oblige. Nearly everything I do design-wise is digital, but ideas almost always begin the old fashioned way – on paper. Whether its a client meeting, conference or just sitting in a coffee shop brainstorming a project, I’m never without my notebook.
Here’s a couple of pages ripped from my Moleskine packed with thoughts and doodles that eventually became blog entries:

Lara, thanks for the peek inside your sketches and how you think. I’m taken by how one little graphic can amplify the meaning of a word or section. Thanks!
Thanks Becky. Getting thoughts and sketches down on paper always seems to burn the ideas into my brain. Can’t tell you how often I return to my notes for review or inspiration.
