Social and digital media news source Mashable is promoting its 2nd Social Media Day on June 30. And a select group of local Twitterati here in Burlington, VT are busy cobbling together a blow out day of events to celebrate.
A few of us put something together for last year’s Social Media Day, complete with King, Queen and favorite socially savvy local businesses and organizations. We hope to quadruple the effort this year by curating even more interest (and swag) from local businesses, and participation of social media enthusiasts from Burlington and beyond.
What are you doing for Social Media Day?
If nothing is going on in your area, start drumming up interest by hosting something yourself. Mashable has set up a MeetUp site for cities and towns to claim and collect participants. We’re going the extra mile and then some with a revived Facebook page, new Twitter account, branded survey forms for collecting votes, a special hashtag (#btvsmd) and even a quick WordPress website to hold it all together. (I need to get on that stat!)
Nothing is too crazy to show your community how social media has brought you all closer to one another. Like this alpaca that was walked around downtown Cleveland to promote their Social Media Day celebration in 2010. Nuts!
