Trawling the the latest tweets in the #tourismchat stream (always find useful gems in that feed), there was a shout out to Toronto Tourism’s incredibly delicious website, Trending.SeeTorontoNow.com.
An aside from there regular visitor website, this microsite of sorts showcases juicy imagery from a bird’s eye or webcam view, complete with animated graphics of tweets that might be coming from people in the scenes. Tweets seem to be pulled from those including the hash tag, #torontotrending.
So clever, it almost appears to be happening in real time – like I really am ‘seeing Toronto now’.
Great use of Google Map API
There’s also a Google Map overlay view with pin points of how many people are checked into any given spot on the map along with a variety of info spots of other online mentions. Click on any of those top right icons to isolate points of interest like dining, nightlife and shopping. Assuming all the businesses pinpointed are members of Toronto Tourism, this is a great value-added benefit to visitors that are looking for something to do and see in the moment.
Downside
Its not mobile, at least not on my brand new iPhone4. The map overlay appears fine and the pinpoints show up, but nothing happens when clicked. The flyout Deals, Trends and Twitter Feed pops up, but in all its a slow clunky wait.
For potential travelers and meeting planners, Trending.SeeTorontoNow.com offers loads of eye candy and collects everything interesting the city has to offer visitors.
Who wouldn’t see themselves right in the middle of it all?
