VisitPhilly goes all Foodspotting…again

Foodspotting Guides - VisitPhilly

Back in July 2011, I wrote about how VisitPhilly (Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation) had really taken advantage of Foodspotting Guides for their online and mobile audience. Now VisitPhilly (VisitPhilly.com) has created seven more of these handy Guides to further promote what’s good for visitors and locals alike.

Foodspotting Guides - VisitPhillyNewly crafted Foodspotting Guides include

  1. The Hoagie: Philly’s Go-to Cold Sandwich: Delicious hoagies from South Philly to the suburbs
  2. Classic Cocktails: Best ways to drink in Philadelphia’s Prohibition history
  3. Gluten-Free Philly: Great gluten-free dining options
  4. Hot Dog Days of Philadelphia: Haute dogs to traditionally topped ones
  5. Meatball Madness: Comfort food that Philly restaurants are having a ball with
  6. Philly’s Coffee Scene: Coffee and cappuccino and latte, oh my
  7. Upscale Popcorn in Philadelphia: What’s poppin’ in Philly’s popcorn world

I didn’t know Philly was renown for its gourmet popcorn – but I sure do now. Let’s eat.

Says VisitPhilly’s Director of Social Media, Caroline Bean:

“In the first two weeks after we launched in May, our foodspotting.com/visitphilly page got five times the amount of Foodspotting’s other partners’ page views that soon after launch. Our followers increased 755% in those first two weeks. We’ve now grown to nearly 1,000 followers and 22 guides.”

That’s some serious exposure for local businesses. All mobile, and all available on mobile devices or desktops via Foodspotting’s brilliant and useful Guides section.

In May 2011 VisitPhilly became the first destination to launch a major Foodspotting program with multiple guides and Foodspotting’s support.

Fiona Tang, head of outreach for Foodspotting, says:

“Our partnership with Visit Philly was one of the most successful launches we’ve seen on Foodspotting. And it’s simply because Visit Philly understood the value of our service, was totally on board and put a significant push behind helping get the word out. We were so thrilled to see the amount of attention the partnership got in the Philly area!”

The Guides that VisitPhilly have set up aren’t just listings for bars and coffee shops. They’ve set up a Guide to promote the local Restaurant Week, Farmers Markets, and even a Food & Drink Writer Meetup. How cool is that? And how convenient and right now for visitors and locals alike.

The content is all crowd-sourced from locals. They know what’s good and what’s worth shouting about. Things so fantastic people are incensed to whip out their smart phones, snap a picture, upload it to the Foodspotting app and describe it for the next potential customer.

These Foodspotting Guides create brand advocates out of Philly’s locals and visitors. They don’t need any incentive to brag about what’s good locally – they’re chowing down and talking about right now, right down the street.
